Ohio State Deals 3-1 Loss to Mavericks

Columbus, Ohio--Ohio State freshman forward Andrew Schembri tallied two goals in the first period to pace the Buckeyes to a 3-1 victory over Nebraska-Omaha in front of 5,511 fans at Value City Arena Friday night.
Schembri popped two goals off of rebounds at 4:11 and 8:08 of the opening stanza. Senior forward Scott May assisted on both of Schembri's goals.
OSU increased its lead to 3-0 with 9:35 remaining in the second period when sophomore forward Dan Knapp scored an even-strength goal just seconds after an OSU power play expired.
UNO tried to climb back in the game at the 12:29 mark of the final period when freshman forward Kaleb Betts scored his seventh goal of the season. OSU sophomore goaltender David Caruso got tripped up by UNO freshman forward Scott Parse while trying to clear a loose puck in the left circle and Betts buried a slapshot from the left point.
Maverick freshman goaltender Chris Holt stopped 24 of 27 Ohio State shots in the losing effort. Caruso also finished with 24 saves.
The Mavericks were 0-for-6 on the power play while killing off all five Ohio State man-advantage opportunites.
The loss to OSU extended Nebraska-Omaha's winless streak to seven games (0-5-2).
The two teams met again Saturday night at Value City Arena. Faceoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
