Mavericks Rally, Fall Short at St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, MINN. -- The Mavericks rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit, took a second-half lead, then fell back as St. Cloud State recovered to register an 85-72 North Central Conference win Saturday night at Halenbeck Hall. The loss, the 10th straight, dropped UNO to 4-18 overall and 0-10 in the NCC.
Five Mavericks scored in double figures, led by sophomore guard Shannon Eggers, who scored 13 points, with 11 coming in the second half.
The Mavs will play their final five regular season games at home, beginning with a Tuesday night non-conference date with Doane at Sapp Fieldhouse at 7.
The Huskies held UNO to just 38 percent shooting from the floor the first half and used a 14-4 run over the final 7:27 to take a 38-28 halftime lead.
The Mavericks came out hot the second half, however. After trading baskets, UNO scored 13 straight points to take a 43-40 lead 4:07 into the half as five different players scored. UNO maintained the edge for nearly six minutes before the Huskies' Erika Quigley ignited a 10-0 run with two field goals. The Mavs couldn't recover, going without a field goal for over seven minutes, and the Huskies built the lead to as high as 16 points.
Lindsey Petersen and JJ Smith each added 12 points for UNO, while Sara Myers scored 11 and LaCheryl Prince 10. UNO shot 60 percent the second half and 47.5 percent for the game, but were outrebounded by the Huskies 44-29, including a 24-10 margin the second half.
Katie Huschle led the Huskies with 19 points, Quigley added 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds and Sascha Hansen also scored 14.
