Michigan State Blanks Mavs, 3-0

East Lansing, Michigan--Former River City Lancer goaltender Dominic Vicari tallied 21 saves for his fifth shutout of the season as Michigan State blanked Nebraska-Omaha 3-0 in front of 6,576 at Munn Ice Arena Friday night.
Ash Goldie got MSU a 1-0 lead at 6:48 of the first period on the power play. Goldie grabbed a rebound that trickled into the right circle and he buried it for his ninth goal of the year.
The Spartans extended its lead to 2-0 when Jim Slater fired a snapshot from just inside the blueline at 9:21 of the second period .
Slater then helped Michigan State gain a 3-0 lead at 3:45 of the third period when he skated behind the Maverick net and found Tommy Goebel in the crease. Maverick goaltender Chris Holt committed to Slater as he wrapped around along the boards which left a wide open net for Goebel's chip in.
"It was a situation where we didn't finish when we had our opportunities," UNO head coach Mike Kemp said. "Dominic Vicari played well and Michigan State finished on their opportunites. That's the bottom line."
MSU outshot the Mavs 31-21 in the contest. UNO was 0-for-5 on the power play while the Spartans finished 1-for-7.
UNO (6-20-5, 4-17-4 CCHA) will look to snap its nine-game winless streak on Saturday night in the series finale with MSU. The 6:35 p.m. game will be televised by Fox Sports Detroit.
