No. 8 Bison Hand Mavs 94-69 Setback

Angie Froehlich's 27 points led No. 8 North Dakota State to a 94-69 North Central Conference victory over the Mavericks Saturday night at Sapp Fieldhouse. Sophomore forward JJ Smith led the Mavericks for a second straight night with 22 points.
The loss was the 12th straight in league play for the Mavs, who fell to 5-20 and 0-12. The Bison, tied for first in the NCC, improved to 20-5 and 9-3.
UNO battled the Bison on fairly even terms through the first 10 minutes, grabbing the lead twice, and closing to within 14-12 with 13:22 left on Leslie Ross' layup. Froehlich then touched off a 14-2 run by hitting her only three-point attempt of the night and the Bison soon held a 28-14 lead with 8:40 to play.
NDSU led at halftime 48-36 and the closest UNO could pull was nine points, 55-46, with 16:32 left on Shannon Eggers' short jumper.
Besides Smith, who connected on eight of 12 from the field and five of six from the free throw line, Eggers scored 12. LaCheryl Prince and Skeeter Zoucha each dished out five assists.
Froehlich scored 19 of her points in the first half and finished the game with 11 of 17 from the floor. Michelle Fricke and Danni Heintzelman added 15 points apiece and Leah Klabo grabbed 12 rebounds for the Bison.
UNO, now assured of a last-place finish in the NCC, will conclude the season next weekend with home games Friday against No. 10 South Dakota State and Saturday night against Augustana.
