Warning's Seven RBIs Lead Mavs to Bearcat Sweep

Kelsey Warning had seven RBIs and Lauren McArthur had five hits and two walks as the Mavs swept a doubleheader between Northwest Missouri State, 4-3 in the first game and 10-4 in the second, Wednesday at Claussen-Westgate Field. The 18th-ranked Mavs improved to 8-3 and the Bearcats dropped to 4-7.
In the first game the Mavs scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning on six singles, but Northwest Missouri State answered in the sixth with three runs off home runs by Angie McCoy and Ashley Pride. Freshman Cheris Kuster struck out six Bearcats and gave up seven hits to get the win and even her record at 2-2.
The second game started with both pitchers struggling through the first inning. UNO slipped in five runs on three hits against Bearcat starter Talina Canon while Maverick freshman Taren Tuley walked four and hit three batters to give up four runs.
Tuley ended up walking six but struck out seven and allowed just one hit before Jenny Pritchard came in in relief. Pritchard made it through the final three innings with four strikeouts to remain perfect with a 4-0 record.
The Mavericks added to their lead in the fifth when Warning drove in Lauren McArthur and Sara Sortino when she hit her second home run of the year and picked up her team-leading 12th RBI. In the sixth Andrea Lockett, Kellyn Kramolisch, Sortino and McArthur all singled to lead UNO to two more runs to secure the win.
The Mavs will travel to Orlando, Fla., to play 12 games Saturday through March 19 at the Rebel Spring Games.
