Mar 2, 2004 | Men's Basketball
North Dakota State will be the Mavericks' semifinal game opponent in the Wells Fargo Finals Friday night at 8 at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Bison earned the right to advance in the NCC post-season tournament with an 87-74 home court win over St. Cloud State Tuesday night. South Dakota and South Dakota State will meet in the first game at 6 p.m.
Coach Kevin McKenna's Mavericks, who captured their first North Central Conference title in 20 years, have posted their third straight 20-win season. UNO, at 20-7, is also pointing toward a second trip in three years to the NCAA Division II tournament. The winner of the Wells Fargo Finals will earn an automatic spot in the eight-team regional field, which will be announced late Sunday night.
The Mavericks split with the Bison, each winning at home, in the NCC regular season. NDSU posted a 73-63 win in Fargo in January and the Mavs evened the score with a 75-64 win in Omaha on Feb. 21.
