Mavs Split Twinbill With Minnesota State

OMAHA--Jon Christiansen scattered four hits over five innings and the offense provided three homers as UNO gained a 7-2 victory and split with Minnesota State, Mankato at the Creighton Sports Complex on Sunday.
MSU scored its only two runs in the first inning on a home run by Adam Sudbeck and an RBI single by Zach Malwitz. UNO's Josh Shirk belted a solo shot in the first inning before the Mavs tied the game on an RBI double by Jim Sledge in the third.
UNO then took the lead for good in the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Jake Wurth and a solo home run from Kevin Whitman for a 5-2 lead.
David Bodnar gave UNO two more insurance runs in the six inning with a two RBI double to end scoring.
In the first game, sophomore Kevin Whitman carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning but surrendered two walks, a hit batsman and a double before exiting the game. UNO pitchers walked 10 batters and hit two in the 8-4 loss. Jim Sledge homered a doubled in the losing effort.
UNO (9-13, 1-1 NCC) will finish the four-game series with Minnesota State Mankato on Monday with a noon doubleheader at the Creighton Sports Complex.
