
Wurth Paces Mavs to Series Split

OMAHA-Senior outfielder Jake Wurth's two-run homer in the bottom of the third broke a scoreless tie and helped lift the Mavericks to a 3-2 victory and a split with Minnesota State, Mankato Monday at the Creighton Sports Complex.
Sophomore Kevin Whitman followed Wurth with a solo shot of his own to give the Mavericks a 3-0 lead.
Freshman Greg Tubbesing kept MSU in check for five innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run to improve to 2-0 on the season. Sophomore James Adams threw the last two innings in relief to record his first save of the year.
In the first game, UNO trailed 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners at first and third and one out but Mankato closer Joe Kern shut the door with two strikeouts to end the Nebraska-Omaha rally.
Jake Wurth completed the four-game series with MSU going 7-for-12 (.583) with three home runs, five runs scored and six runs batted in.
Nebraska-Omaha (10-14, 2-2 NCC) will travel to North Dakota State this weekend.
