Mavs Set Record with Shutout Over Duluth

The Mavs set a school record with their 11th win in a 9-0 shutout over Minnesota-Duluth Sunday afternoon at Hanscom Park Tennis Center. Nebraska-Omaha improved to 11-2 and finished its third three-win weekend of the year.
"The Mavs played their best tennis of the year today," Coach Bill Nichols said after UNO won it's tenth straight, also a team record.
The Maverick No. 2 doubles team of Sarah Huls and Lindsay Henjum remained perfect at 9-0 with an 8-3 win over Rachel Stutelberg and Jenny Whalen. The Duluth No. 2 team came into the weekend at 8-0.
Mikaila Spalding found herself down 0-3 in the first set at No. 5 singles but managed to come back and defeat Kara Skildum 6-4, 6-2 and improve to 5-4. At the No. 1 spot Sara Batchelor won her eighth match with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Bulldog Amber Fischer.
In the other doubles matches Pam Le and Maggie Russell jumped to 6-1 with a win at No. 1 and at No. 3 Mikaila Spalding and Abby Wilson improved to 3-0.
In singles Maggie Russell stayed perfect at 6-0 with a win at No. 4; Huls and Henjum both improved to 6-3 with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively; and Shannon Dinovo won her seventh match with a victory at No. 6.
The Mavs will put their winning streak on the line with a dual at Northwest Missouri State next weekend. The Bearcats finished last year at 23-6 after losing in the NCAA quarterfinals to eventual runner-up Barry.
Notes: Due to court restrictions, the dual against Rockhurst scheduled for March 20 will either be played at noon or 6 p.m. that same day, not 3 p.m., as it was originally scheduled...If weather restricts play on outdoor courts next weekend the dual with NMSU will be played at Missouri Western's MWSC Tennis Center in Saint Joseph.
