No. 4 Mavs Win Three at UNO Classic

Kelsey Warning's two-run single in the top of the seventh against South Dakota put the game into extra innings where the Mavs won 8-4 in their second game Saturday at the UNO Softball Classic at Seymour Smith Softball Complex. The Mavericks started the day with an 11-3 win over South Dakota State and ended the tournament with a 7-3 win over Northwest Missouri State. Fourth-ranked UNO (36-4) went 6-0 in the tournament and has won 16 straight games.
Against the Coyotes, the Mavericks rallied from a 4-0 deficit to record the victory. Trailing 4-1 in the seventh with two outs, Lauren McArthur doubled in a run to put runners at second and third. Warning then drove them both in to tie the game. She leads the team with 39 RBIs.
The Mavericks exploded for four runs in the eighth to secure the victory. Nicole Vos scored on a fielder's choice before Sarah Sortino walked with the bases loaded to drive in Andrea Lockett. McArthur then singled in two more runs.
In the first game Sophomore Shilo Jorgensen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run to lead the Mavs at the plate against the Jackrabbits. Jorgensen batted .500 in the UNO Classic with four RBIs and a double. Freshman Kellyn Kramolisch went 3-for-5 and scored two runs.
Freshman Cheris Kuster struck out four SDSU batters to improve to 14-2 on the year and Jenny Pritchard recorded the save while allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings of relief.
Every batter in the Maverick lineup recorded at least one hit as UNO finished the tournament with a decisive 7-3 win over Northwest Missouri State. Warning went 3-for-3 with a home run to lead the Mavs. Junior Nicole Vos picked up her fourth home run of the tournament and the 26th of her career, putting her just two behind Erin Drinnin for the Maverick career record.
Pritchard, who pitched the last 18 innings for UNO due to an injury to Cheris Kuster in the first game, struck out 16 batters, picked up two wins to go to 15-1 on the year and earned her second save.
The Mavericks will travel to Wayne State on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the Wildcats.
