Mavs Split With Jackrabbits

Redshirt freshman Josh Shirk delivered a two out two-run home run in the bottom of the 14th inning to give UNO a 2-0 win in the first game of a North Central doubleheader against South Dakota State on Saturday.
Freshman pitcher Greg Tubbesing kept the Jackrabbits in check for the first seven innings, allowing only two hits while striking out eight SDSU batters. Sophomores Brant Hanisch and Adam Drury picked up right where Tubbesing left off. Hanisch allowed only two hits in three innings and Drury picked up his first victory of the season after throwing four scoreless innings.
Senior Jake Wurth was 3-for-5 in the first game while sophomore David Bodnar went 2-for-4.
In game two, SDSU's Gary Olechoski went the distance scattering nine hits and five runs for his second win of the season in the 8-5 victory. Josh Shirk, Kevin Whitman and Justin Kilker each collected two hits in the Maverick loss.
