Mavs Belt Six Homers in Sweep Over USD

Vermillion, S.D.--The Nebraska-Omaha baseball team picked up a pair of victories in a North Central Conference doubleheader against the University of South Dakota on Tuesday, 11-3 and 7-5.
Junior pitcher Troy Cloyd picked up his second-straight victory in the opener. Cloyd (2-2) went the distance against the Coyotes, scattering four hits and surrendering only two earned runs while striking out four.
Freshman Josh Shirk and Senior Jake Wurth were the only Mavericks two have multi-hit games in the first game. Shirk went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored. Wurth was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Sophomore Kevin Whitman, senior Jim Sledge and junior Adam McCullough also homered. UNO took advantage of seven USD walks in the game and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after three walks with the bases loaded.
In the nightcap, the Mavs rallied from a 4-2 deficit after three innings with two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Sophomore Lee Kramolisch belted a solo homer in the second inning and Adam McCullough added his second homer on the day in the sixth. Wurth, Kramolisch, Whitman and senior Jeff Sova each had two hits a piece.
UNO (14-20, 6-8 NCC) will play Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a seven-inning game at the Creighton Sports Complex Wednesday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
