Mavs Down Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 15-11

The Nebraska-Omaha baseball team used two big innings to defeat Division I foe University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 15-11 at the Creighton Sports Complex on Wednesday.
UNO jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on a bases loaded walk and a grand slam home run by senior catcher Jeff Sova. Sova finished the game with a career-high five RBI.
The Panthers took an 8-5 lead after two innings with a seven-run second inning but the Mavericks sent 12 batters to the plate in the third and responded with eight runs to take a 13-8 lead.
Senior Jim Sledge added two insurance runs in the seventh inning with a two-run blast over the left field fence. It was Sledge's 11th homer on the season and fourth RBI of the day.
The Mavs pounded out 15 hits in the contest and extended their winning streak to three games. Sophomore Kevin Whitman was 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Josh Shirk, Justin Kilker, Troy Cloyd, David Bodnar and Sledge all collected two hits a piece.
Sophomore pitcher Brant Hanisch earned his first victory of the season, giving up three hits and no runs in two innings of work.
UNO (15-20, 6-8 NCC) will resume conference play this weekend with a four-game series at St. Cloud State on Saturday and Sunday.
