Mavs Split with MSU to end NCC Play in First

MANKATO, Minn. - The Mavericks were held to just two hits in a 1-0 loss in the first game of a doubleheader against Minnesota State, Mankato Sunday afternoon but got six runs off ten hits in the second game for a 6-3 win and split in UNO's final conference games of the year. The No. 4 Mavs (42-6) finished North Central Conference play at 12-2 and in first place.
In the first game MSU pitcher Amy Lewis held the Mavs to two third-inning hits and the Mavs only reached second base three times. Lewis got her run support in the fifth inning when Lindsay Mamer tripled and Jackie Vida drove her in. UNO pitcher Cheris Kuster got the loss to fall to 16-3.
The Mavs fell behind again in the second game when MSU scored in the first inning but Andrea Lockett and Sara Sortino both tripled in the second inning to tie the score. The Mavs then scored five runs in the final four innings and Erin Bluml had three RBIs to lead the Mavs to the win. Taren Tuley struck out five to get the victory and go to 10-2 and Jenny Pritchard pitched two innings of relief to earn her third save.
The Mavs will return to Mankato for the MSU American Legion Classic to play five games next weekend.
