Mavs Take Twin Bill From North Dakota

The Nebraska-Omaha baseball team used the fourth inning of both games to lift them to a doubleheader sweep over NCC-leading North Dakota on Friday, 11-2 and 7-5 at the Creighton Sports Complex.
Maverick pitcher Troy Cloyd picked up his fourth consecutive victory in the first game with a complete game five-hitter to move to 5-2 on the year. UNO trailed 2-1 heading into the fourth inning but put up nine runs in the bottom of the fourth. A grand slam by Josh Shirk and a two-run homer by Sam Nocita highlighted the inning.
Jim Sledge added two more runs in the sixth inning with his 14th home run of the season. Sledge is one homer away of tying the school-record for home runs in a season set by Dave Poulicek in 1982.
In the second game, North Dakota jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third inning and knocked out UNO starter Jon Christiansen.
The Mavs cut the lead to 4-2 with an RBI double by Josh Shirk. UNO then took the lead for good in the fourth on three consecutive doubles by Jeff Sova, Troy Cloyd and Josh Shirk. Shirk finished the day with six RBI.
Adam Drury picked up his second win of the season giving up two hits and a run in two innings of work. Neal Belt picked up his first save of the season throwing two perfect innings.
The Mavs (20-21, 11-9 NCC) will host North Dakota again on Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Creighton Sports Complex.
