Mavs Drop Pair to North Dakota

The Nebraska-Omaha baseball team surrendered a pair of North Central Conference losses to North Dakota, 9-5 and 4-1 at the Creighton Sports Complex on Sunday.
In the first game, UND's Jason Fairchild was 3-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBI to lead the Fighting Sioux. North Dakota (32-12, 16-6 NCC) scored a total of six runs with two outs in the third and sixth innings. Jim Sledge and Jake Wurth led UNO offensively. Sledge had a 3-for-3 performance at the plate while Jake Wurth was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run.
North Dakota's J.J. Scheving moved to a perfect 8-0 in the second game, scattering five hits and striking out eight Mavericks. UND led 2-0 going into the seventh inning before scoring a pair of insurance runs in the final frame. The Mavericks made it interesting in their final at bat. An RBI single by Jeff Sova scored Justin Kilker to make it a 4-1 game. Troy Cloyd then collected his second hit of the game with a double to right center but Sova was thrown out at home with a relay throw from the second basemen to end the UNO rally.
UNO (20-23, 11-11 NCC) will host South Dakota in a doubleheader at Millard West High School on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the final regular season home games for Nebraska-Omaha.
