Mavs Earn Top Honors on All-NCC Team

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Cheris Kuster was named freshman of the year, Jeanne Tostenson was named coach of the year, and seven Mavericks were named to the all-NCC team Friday in this year's voting for North Central Conference softball honors. Joining Kuster on the team were Shilo Jorgensen, Nicole Vos, Andrea Lockett, Katie Novotny, Sara Sortino and Kelsey Warning.
Kuster earned the top award for newcomers by leading the league on the mound with 227 strikeouts. She also has an 18-4 record and a 1.05 ERA. Kuster's strikeout total is the highest single-season amount in Maverick history.
Tostenson's honors were her second in five years. This year she led the team to a 45-7 overall record and 12-2 NCC record coming into the NCC tournament.
Jorgensen, a sophomore third baseman, led the team after the regular season with a .349 batting average and has 21 RBIs. Vos, a junior shortstop, leads the Mavs with ten home runs and recently tied the all-time UNO record with 27 career long balls. This is Vos' second appointment to the all-NCC team. Warning, a freshman, is second on the team with eight home runs and a .342 batting average. Lockett, a senior, leads the Mavs behind the plate with a .996 fielding percentage and is batting .293 with 11 RBIs. Sortino, a freshman outfielder, is batting .320 with 21 batted in and Novotny, a sophomore, is batting .319 with a home run and 13 RBIs.
The Mavericks will take their pool of talent into this weekend's NCC tournament Friday and Saturday hosted by St. Cloud State.
