Jorgenson's Homer, Two Doubles Lead Mavs to Sweep

Shilo Jorgenson went five for six with a home run to lead the No. 5 Mavs to a doubleheader sweep over North Central Conference opponent North Dakota Sunday afternoon. UNO took the first game 5-0 and the second game 8-0 at Claussen-Westgate Field for the team's second and third shutouts in four games over the weekend. The Mavs improved to 28-4 (6-0 NCC) and UND dropped to 2-16 (0-4 NCC).
In the opener freshman Cheris Kuster (10-2) gave up four hits and struck out 11 to move alone into eighth on the Maverick single-season record with 133 now. She pitched 14 and a third innings of scoreless baseball over the weekend to drop her ERA to 1.03.
Jorgenson drove in three runs on a third-inning blast to left-center, her first of the year after hitting seven as a freshman last year. The home run was just the second given up by the Fighting Sioux this year.
Earlier in the third inning Kelsey Warning drove in Kelli Lentz and Kellyn Kramolisch who both got on base with infield singles. Warning now leads the team with 35 RBIs.
With no runs on the board in the second game, Maverick pitcher Jenny Pritchard got two quick outs in the second inning before giving up three straight singles to load the bases. The freshman got the next batter to pop out and she gave up just one hit the rest of the way to up her record to 11-1.
The Mavs scored two runs in the fifth inning off three walks and doubles by Jorgenson and Andrea Lockett to end the game on the eight-run rule.
Jorgenson ended the day with a homer, two doubles and four RBIs.
The Mavs will honor Lentz, Sarah Scheppers and Andrea Lockett with Senior Day ceremonies Wednesday evening between doubleheader games against Augustana. The twin bill will begin at 4.
