NCC Players of Week Shine in Mav Sweep

Freshman Cheris Kuster moved into a tie for fourth for the single season strikeout record and dropped her ERA below 1 as the Mavs won their ninth and tenth games in a sweep over Augustana 1-0 and 5-3. UNO improved to 30-4 and 8-0 in the North Central Conference and the Vikings dropped to 16-13 (5-3).
Kuster (11-2), last week's NCC pitcher of the week, lengthened her scoreless streak to 32 and a third innings and dropped her ERA to 0.94. She struck out 11 in the one-hit opener and got four more AC batters in one and two-thirds innings of relief in the night cap. She now has 148 strikeouts.
In the opener, Nicole Vos singled to center field in the fourth inning and player of the week Shilo Jorgenson drove her in with a double for the only run of the game. Kuster struck out seven of the first eight batters.
In the second game the Mavs and Vikings traded second-inning runs when Gian Hill tripled in an AC run and Katie Novotny singled in Missy Kelly.
Lauren McArthur drove in two runs in the fourth before Vos homered to left field. Vos' homer was the 22nd of her career, moving her into second for the Maverick career record. She is six home runs behind Erin Drinnin.
Jenny Pritchard picked up her team-leading 12th win and Kuster earned her second save.
The Mavs will host the UNO Classic Friday and Saturday at Seymour-Smith Complex with their first games starting at 9 a.m. both days. UNO will play six games in the nine-team tournament.
Notes: Shilo Jorgensen of Nebraska-Omaha was named the North Central Conference player of the week. Jorgensen, a sophomore from Lafayette, Colo., hit .553 (8x15) in six games last week for UNO. She collected two doubles, a homerun and an RBI while stealing one base...Katie Krauth of Augustana and Cheris Kuster of Nebraska-Omaha were been named the North Central Conference pitchers of the week. Kuster, a freshman from Roco, Neb., pitched 22 1/3 innings in three games without allowing a run last week. She had 36 strikeouts while allowing only eight hits, all singles. Included in the tally is a shutout of North Dakota State...These were the third and fourth such honors for the Mavs this year.
