Whitman, Cloyd Combine for No-Hitter

Kevin Whitman and Troy Cloyd combined to toss a seven-inning no-hitter as the Mavericks claimed the first game of a North Central Conference doubleheader with South Dakota State, 5-0, Friday at Seymour Smith Park.
Whitman, a sophomore left-hander from Brighton, Mich., struck out two before leaving the game with an arm injury with two out in the top of the second inning. Cloyd, a junior right-hander from Bellevue, came on to pitch the final five and one-third innings, striking out two.
Josh Shirk, Jeff Sova and Jim Sledge each delivered RBI singles for the Mavericks.
In the second game, SDSU rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Nebraska-Omaha 7-6.
UNO (11-19, 3-7 NCC) will host South Dakota State again on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon at Seymour Smith Park.
