Day One in the Books at North Central Regional

First- and second-round action at the NCAA II softball North Central Regional at Claussen-Westgate Field wrapped up Thursday. North Dakota State and St. Cloud State both made it through to the semfinals and will play each other Friday at 3 p.m. to advance to the final. Truman State and Emporia State will meet at 10 a.m. and UNO and Concordia will meet at 12:30 p.m. in elimination games.

Game 1: #4 North Dakota State 2, #5 Emporia State 0
North Dakota State's Courtney LaCock blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to produce the game's only runs as fourth-seeded North Dakota State defeated fifth-seeded Emporia State 2-0 in the first game of the NCAA II North Central Regional in Omaha, Neb.
The Bison (39-9) were led on the mound by senior Lindsey Graham, who allowed two hits and struck out six Emporia State batters while recording her 14th shutout of the season, improving to 23-7.
Emporia State pitcher Melissa Stevens allowed just three hits and none until the bottom of the sixth inning while striking out seven Bison batters.
North Dakota State advances to play top seed and host Nebraska-Omaha at 3 p.m. today. Emporia State will play at 10 a.m. on Friday against Truman State.
Game 2: #3 Truman State 1, #6 Concordia 0
Loni Wedemeier's home run to left center field in the bottom of the seventh sent Truman State to the second round of the NCAA North Central Region tournament with a 1-0 win over Concordia in the secon game of the tournament. The Bulldogs will play St. Cloud State Thursday night at 5:30 and the Golder Bears will play Friday at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the consolation bracket.
Wedemeier's blast, the eighth of the year for her, was just the fourth hit of the game for Truman after Concordia pitcher Kristen Schmidt struck out nine Bulldog batters.
Truman State pitcher Breanna Wonderly allowed only five hits while striking out seven Concordia batters to improve to 12-4 on the season. Concordia stranded 10 baserunners in the game
Game 3: # 4 North Dakota State 7, #1 Nebraska-Omaha 0
North Dakota State exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth inning as the Bison upset top-seeded Nebraska-Omaha, 7-0, in the third game of the NCAA Division II North Central Regional in Omaha, Neb.
Freshman catcher Cindy Castleberry blasted a grand slam home run in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Castleberry went 2-for-2 with four RBIs in the game.
Senior Bison pitcher Lindsey Graham picked up her second shut out of the day, improving to 24-7 on the season. Graham, who notched her 1,000th career strikeout in the second inning, belted an RBI double in the top of the first inning in what proved to be all the Bison would need for the victory. Graham recorded nine strikeouts and two walks while walking two Nebraska-Omaha batters. At the plate, Graham went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Nebraska-Omaha was led at the plate by freshman Sara Sortino who went 2-for-3. The Mavericks left nine baserunners stranded in the loss.
North Dakota State improved to 40-9 and advances to play St. Cloud State at 3 p.m. on Friday. The Mavericks, who dropped to 47-10, will battle Concordia-St. Paul at 12:30 p.m. in a loser's bracket game on Friday.
Game 4: St. Cloud State 5, Truman State 3
St. Cloud State survived a seventh inning scare and held on to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA North Central Region tournament with a 5-3 win over Truman State Thursday at Claussen-Westgate Field. The Huskies improved to 38-12 behind pitcher Nicole Webb's (26-5) nine strikeouts. The Bulldogs dropped to 44-11.
Webb helped herself out with a double and an RBI in the third inning. The Huskies scored three runs in that inning after opening up scoring with two in the second inning.
Truman made things interesting in the final inning when Holly Kessler and Katy Mueller singled in runs, but Webb struck out Krystl Brown to end the game and leave the bases loaded.
The Bulldogs will face Emporia State Friday at 10 a.m. and SCSU will face North Dakota State at 3 p.m. for a chance to advance to the finals.
