No. 4 North Alabama Downs UNO in Season Opener

Florence, Ala. -- Defending national champion North Alabama, the nation's fourth-ranked team handed the UNO Mavericks a 3-1 (30-27, 27-30, 30-26, 30-25) loss as both teams opened the season at the North Alabama Lions Classic Thursday night before 463 fans at Flowers Hall.
Junior middle blocker Briana Ritter led the Mavericks with a career-high 16 killls, to go along with two blocks. Ritter was the only Maverick in double-figure kills. Senior Amy McLeay finished with seven kills, two service aces, and 10 digs. Junior setter Christie Johnson dished out 36 set assists and a team-high five service aces in the loss.
The Mavericks will continue action on Friday in the North Alabama Lions Classic when they battle No. 10-ranked Grand Valley State at 2 p.m. and No. 22-ranked Pittsburg State at 4:30 p.m.
