Former UAF Aide Joins Mav Hockey Staff

Todd Jones, an assistant hockey coach at the University of Alaska Fairbanks for the past three seasons, will join the Nebraska-Omaha hockey program as an assistant coach, UNO head coach Mike Kemp announced this morning.
Jones began his coaching career in 1995-1996 at North Dakota as an undergraduate assistant and goaltender coach. He served as assistant coach/general manager for Sioux City in the United States Hockey League for three seasons, was head coach and general manager for Thunder Bay in the USHL, and then head coach and general manager for Fernie in the America West Hockey League prior to joining Alaska Fairbanks in 2001.
"We are lucky to have a man like Todd step in and be a part of our program," Kemp said. "His knowledge of the league and past experiences in coaching at various levels will be a huge addition to our coaching staff."
Jones played junior hockey in the British Columbia Hockey League and then at the University of North Dakota where he was the team's rookie of the year in 1991-1992 and received his B.S. degree in physical education in 1996.
"Its an excellent opportunity," Jones said. "Nebraska-Omaha is an exceptional program that is still building and has a bright future and I'm looking forward to being a part of that."
Jones takes the place of former Mav assistant, Mark Strobel, who resigned July 12.
