Thies Earns NCC Player of Week Honor

UNO's Karen Thies and Arin Andrews of Minnesota State have been named the North Central Conference Players of the Week. Thies helped UNO jump out to its first 2-0 start in the NCC in eight years as the Mavericks defeated a pair of nationally-ranked teams.
Thies scored 29 points and had 12 rebounds in helping UNO break a 24-game losing streak to North Dakota Saturday night. She scored UNO's last 18 points, including all 15 in overtime in the 77-72 win over the Fighting Sioux. Her three-pointer with 16 seconds left forced the overtime and she then hit all four three-pointers she attempted and hit three of four free throws to sink the Sioux.
Thies, a sophomore guard from Durango, Colo., helped lead the Mavericks to three wins in all last week. She scored eight points and had four assists in a non-conference win over Peru State, then scored seven points, handed out four assists and grabbed eight rebounds in a 58-57 win over No. 20 Augustana.
The Mavericks, now 12-5, will play at North Dakota Friday night at 6 in their only game this week.
