Fighting Sioux Avenge Loss to Mavs

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Mavericks' three-game winning streak came to a halt Friday night as No. 14 North Dakota pulled away midway through the first half with an 11-0 run and cruised to an 86-58 North Central Conference win at Ralph Englestad Arena in front of 3,533.
Karen Thies, who led UNO's overtime win over the Fighting Sioux in Omaha last Saturday, paced the Mavs with 15 points. The Mavericks fell to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in the NCC, while North Dakota improved to 13-4 and 1-1.
Ashley Langen led the Fighting Sioux with 22 points and Kristi Boese added 18.
North Dakota shot 53.6 percent from the field while UNO hit just 10 of its 31 first half shots (31.3 percent) to take a 45-23 lead at the break. The Sioux maintained the hot-shooting, connecting on 53.3 percent the second half.
UNO, which held a 61-39 edge last Saturday on the boards, was outrebounded 45-27 for the game. Freshman Sarah Austin led UNO with five.
The Mavericks will be idle until playing at South Dakota on Thursday, Jan. 20.
