RedHawks Down Mavs, 4-2

Miami snapped the Nebraska-Omaha hockey team's six-game unbeaten streak in the CCHA with a 4-2 victory at Goggin Ice Arena Saturday night.
The loss was the first for the Mavericks in 2005 and moved UNO to 12-10-2 overall and 10-8-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Mavericks grabbed a 1-0 lead, 1:49 into the contest when Mick Lawrence scored on an odd man rush for his third goal of the year. Miami responded with three-straight goals in a span of eight minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Joe Cooper evened the score at the 5:36 mark. After two consecutive UNO penalties, the RedHawks converted on a 5-on-3 situation at 6:42 of the period with a goal from Matt Christie. Miami struck again at 13:48 with a slapshot from Andy Nelson.
The Mavs battled back to make the score 3-2 after the first intermission when Scott Parse scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season. With the teams skating 4-on-4, Parse drilled a one-timer from between the circles, 1:04 into the second period. UNO goaltender Chris Holt, who was pulled briefly in the first period after the three Miami goals, kept the RedHawks scoreless in the second period with 12 stops.
Nebraska-Omaha went on the power play with 4:26 remaining in the game but Nathan Davis sealed the deal for the RedHawks, taking advantage of a UNO turnover and scoring a shorthanded goal with 3:34 left in the game.
The Mavs were called for 19 penalties totaling 57 minutes. Miami was 1-for-10 on the power play while the Mavs finished 0-for-5. The RedHawks outshot UNO, 39-34 in the contest.
UNO senior Dan Hacker suffered a slight concussion in the first period and did not return.
Nebraska-Omaha will return home next week to play Wayne State in a non-conference series at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
