
Mavs Complete Sweep of Wayne State

The UNO hockey team extended its home winning streak to five games with a 4-2 non-conference win over Wayne State (Mich.) on Saturday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
Nebraska-Omaha (14-10-2, 10-8-2 CCHA) had to deal with a fiesty Warrior hockey team all weekend. Nate Higgins put WSU up 1-0 at 5:26 of the first period. Kaleb Betts would even the game at 1-1 on a tip in with 1:56 left in the period.
The Mavericks grabbed their first lead just 33 seconds into the second period on a power play goal from Bill Thomas in front of the net.
Wayne State would not go away and tied the score at 2-2 with a power play tally from Adam Krug halfway through the second stanza.
David Phillips then gave the Mavs the lead for good when he knocked home a rebound on the power play at 9:55 of the third period.
Alex Nikiforuk added an empty net goal with 1 second to play to seal the victory.
UNO travels to Notre Dame next weekend in a two-game CCHA set.
