Mavs Power Past Northern Michigan

Omaha, Neb--Brando Scero scored two goals in leading the University of Nebraska-Omaha to a 3-1 CCHA victory over Northern Michigan in front of 7,153 fans at Qwest Center Omaha Friday night.
Scero wristed in a shot at 6:21 of the first period to give the Mavs a lead in a fast paced game that featured only nine penalties the entire match.
Northern Michigan tied the game in the second period on a shot from Matt Ciancio that snuck by Maverick goaltender Chris Holt. But UNO snatched the lead back with 1:56 to play in the second on a power play goal by Joe Grimaldi.
Scero added an insurance goal in the third period, securing the win for UNO, which improved to 9-9-1 overall and 7-7-1 in the CCHA.
UNO outshot Northern Michigan 31-27. The Wildcats dropped to 9-6-4 overall and 7-4-2 in the CCHA. The Mavericks now trail third-place Northern Michigan by one point in the CCHA standings.
The two teams meet again Saturday night in a 7:05 p.m. contest at Qwest Center Omaha.
