Skaters Complete Sweep of Northern Michigan

UNO Goaltender Chris Holt registered 28 saves as UNO defeated Northern Michigan 3-1 to complete a two-game weekend sweep over the Wildcats at the Qwest Center Saturday night.
The Mavs (10-9-1, 8-7-1 CCHA) moved ahead of Northern Michigan (9-7-4, 7-5-2 CCHA) in the conference standings and now sit alone in third place with 17 points.
Freshman David Phillips gave UNO a 1-0 lead at the 9:21 mark of the first period when he scored his sixth goal of the season on a wrist shot from the crease.
NMU's Andrew Sarauer tied the score at 1-1 in the second stanza on a slapshot from the point. The Mavericks then regained the lead with 3:50 remaining in the period on a power play goal by Alex Nikiforuk.
UNO tightened up the defense in the third period, allowing only one third period shot. Dan Hacker's empty net goal with eight seconds left in the game sealed the win.
The sweep was the first for UNO since October 22-23 when they knocked off Western Michigan at the Qwest Center.
The Mavericks were 9-for-9 on the penalty kill over weekend. Holt stopped 54-of-56 shots in the two games and earned his 10th victory of the year.
The crowd of 8,127 was the largest for Nebraska-Omaha this season.
UNO goes on the road next weekend to take on Ferris State in a two-game series.
