Mavs Rally For Five-Game Win Over Wayne State

OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team rallied from a two-game deficit to record a 3-2 (26-30, 21-30, 30-19, 30-25, 15-13) non-conference victory over Wayne State before 612 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse Tuesday night. With the victory, Nebraska-Omaha improves to 13-5 on the season, while Wayne State falls to 18-6.
Sophomore middle blocker Carlie Christensen led four Mavericks with double-figure kill totals as she recorded a match-high 16 kills and hit .433, while adding eight blocks. Also in double-figure kills were Ashley Freeman (12), Christina Reicks (10), and Briana Ritter (10).
Senior libero Chelsea Miller registered a career-high 37 digs, the third-highest single-match total in school history. Miller also added a match-high six service aces. UNO notched a season-high 111 digs in the victory.
The Mavericks held Wayne State to the lowest opponent hitting percentage of the season at .048, while Nebraska-Omaha hit .124 for the match. UNO also held a 24 to 17 advantage in total blocks.
The five-game victory marked the first time UNO has recovered from a two-game deficit to win a match since Sept. 5, 2003 when the Mavericks came back to defeat Washburn at the UNO Classic.
The Mavericks will resume North Central Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 15, when they entertain North Dakota beginning at 4 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
