Mavs Continue Strong Play With Sweep at Augie

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- After upsetting second-ranked Minnesota Duluth on Friday night, the University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team continued its strong play with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-24, 39-37) North Central Conference road win at Augustana Saturday night. The Mavericks have now won 12 consecutive games and four straight matches, including three consecutive three-game sweeps.
With the victory, the Mavericks remained in the conference lead with a 7-1 NCC record and a 16-5 overall mark. Augustana fell to 12-10 overall and 4-5 in the NCC.
The Mavericks, who hit .297 in the match, used a balanced attack with four UNO players reaching double digits in kills. Senior outside hitter Ashley Freeman paced the Mavericks with a match-high 15 kills.
Sophomore middle blocker Carlie Christensen hit .440 with 14 kills, while adding three blocks. Senior rightside hitter Heather Hainline hit .423 with 13 kills and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Christina Reicks collected her seventh double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs.
The Mavericks were led defensively by senior libero Chelsea Miller's 16 digs.
Senior setter Christie Johnson recorded 54 assists and five digs in the win.
In the marathon third game in which the Mavericks won 39-37, no team led by more than three points as the score was tied 21 times. Both teams had five game-points before a kill by Freeman and an attack error by the Vikings' Terrin Post ended the match.
The Mavericks, who have won 12 out of their last 13 matches, will travel to Kearney, Neb. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, for a 7 p.m. match with top-ranked Nebraska-Kearney.
