No.1-Ranked UNK Edges UNO in Five Games

KEARNEY, Neb. - Senior All-American Erin Gumundson pounded 18 kills as the top-ranked University of Nebraska at Kearney volleyball team defeated the 24th-ranked UNO Mavericks 27-30, 30-20, 30-14, 29-31, 15-8 before 2,323 fans at the Health & Sports Center Tuesday night.
The Mavericks fell to 16-6 overall with the loss. Nebraska-Kearney improved to 25-1, running its winning streak to 20 matches and it homecourt winning streak to 55 matches.
Outside hitters Christina Reicks and Ashley Freeman each recorded 15 kills lead the Mavericks. Reicks recorded her eighth double-double of the season by adding 12 digs. Rightside hitter Heather Hainline added 13 kills.
Defensively, the Mavericks were led Nicole McLeod's 16 digs. Chelsea Miller registered 15 digs.
Senior setter Christie Johnson delivered 57 assists, 13 digs, four kills, and three blocks.
Nebraska-Omaha will resume North Central Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 29, when the Mavericks entertain South Dakota beginning at 6 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
