Mavs Fall to Huskers in Exhibition

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska's Kiera Hardy scored 27 points as the Huskers pulled away from the Mavericks the second half to post a 79-66 exhibition win in front of 1,346 at the Devaney Center Monday night. Senior forward JJ Smith led UNO with 19 points and five rebounds.
The Mavs and Huskers traded the lead 11 times in the opening half, with UNO claiming its last lead at 33-31 less than three minutes before the intermission. Nebraska's closing 9-2 run gave it a 40-35 halftime lead.
Oakdale, Minn., freshman Cayla Hargrove added 11 points, while sophomore Karen Thies and junior Carlye Jones each scored 6 points.
The Mavericks will open regular season play Friday in the Disney Tip-Off Classic in Orlando, Fla., facing Augusta State in the first round.
