Mavs Blow by No. 6 Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich.--Nebraska-Omaha snapped a four-game losing streak and handed Michigan State its first CCHA loss of the season in a 7-4 win over the Spartans in front of 4,962 fans at Munn Ice Arena on Friday night.
UNO (3-4-0, 1-4-1 CCHA) earned its first conference points of the season and will attempt its first-ever sweep on the road against Michigan State (5-2-2, 2-1-2 CCHA) on Saturday. Faceoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m, central time.
Nebraska-Omaha jumped out to a 3-1 first period lead on goals by Bryan Marshall, Scott Parse and Bill Thomas. MSU's Colton Fretter scored at the 3:14 mark of the period before UNO rattled off three unanswered goals. Marshall scored 39 seconds after the MSU goal on a pretty wrist shot from the left circle to tie the score. Parse knocked home his own rebound from below the right circle at the 16:40 mark and Thomas redirected a shot past Spartan goaltender Dominic Vicari two minutes later to end the scoring for the period.
Michigan State's Jim McKenzie made it a 3-2 game in the opening two minutes of the second stanza when he tapped a shot in from the crease through traffic. The Mavs took the one-goal lead into the second intermission after surviving a series of shots after Michigan State had a two-man advantage for just over three minutes after a cross checking penalty on Dan Knapp and a five-minute major on Juha Uotila for checking from behind.
UNO opened the game up in the final period and broke out to a four-goal lead with three goals in a six-minute span of the final period. J.P. Platisha scored his first goal as a Maverick at the 2:50 mark on a wrist shot from the goalline to Vicari's right. Jason Krischuk then buried a slapshot from the blueline at the 5:33 mark, followed by Dan Charleston's first career goal from the slot just 19 seconds later.
MSU's Ethan Graham connected for his first goal of the year halfway through the period to make the score 6-3 but Platisha netted his second goal of the evening when he popped a slapshot from the slot at the 12:26 mark.
The seven goals marks the most goals ever by a UNO team in a CCHA road game.
Maverick goaltender Jerad Kaufmann was solid in his first career win, with 28 stops.
MSU held a 32-29 shot advantage in the contest. Both teams were unsuccessful on the power play with UNO going 0-for-2, while Michigan State was 0-for-5.
