Overtime Goal Boosts Mavs to Sweep

EAST LANSING, Mich.-UNO's Bill Thomas scored with 27 seconds left in overtime as Nebraska-Omaha defeated No. 6 Michigan State, 3-2 in front of 5,069 fans at Munn Ice Arena Saturday night.
Nebraska-Omaha (4-4-0, 2-4-0 CCHA) recorded its first-ever sweep on Spartan ice and extended its winning streak to three games in East Lansing.
Michigan State drew first blood in the opening period when Chris Mueller scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway after a UNO turnover at the 3:14 mark.
UNO grabbed a 2-1 lead on a pair of Dan Charleston goals in the second stanza. The Mavs knotted the score at 1-1 early in the period after Charleston picked off a pass at center ice while UNO was shorthanded and broke away to just above the slot, firing a wrist shot past MSU goaltender Jeff Lerg.
Charleston then converted on the power play at the 7:00 mark of the period when he buried the puck from the crease after Alex Nikiforuk grabbed a rebound and fed his teammate with a nifty pass between his legs.Michigan State managed to tie the score at 2-2 with 15 seconds remaining in the second period after Jim McKenzie tapped in a rebound in front of the net.
Maverick goaltender Greg Barrett recorded his second victory of the year and had 29 saves.
