Mavs Open Home Slate With 2 Games

The Mavericks will unveil their 2005-06 team for the home fans this week as they host Rockhurst University on Tuesday and Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavs will play eight of nine games at home in a stretch

Most Maverick games will be broadcast over 1620 AM, KOZN, with David Gustafson calling the action. The UNO-UNK game will be the first broadcast.
For the Record
UNO is 2-1 on the young season after a third-place finish in the Disney Tip-Off Classic Nov. 4-6. The Mavericks finished the 2004-05 season at 14-14 overall and at 4-8 in North Central Conference play. This will be the season openers for both Rockhurst and Nebraska-Kearney.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is beginning her second season as the head coach at UNO and has a 16-15 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 76-64. She compiled a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College before becoming UNO's head coach in the summer of 2004. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their second seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
Mavs 2-1 in Florida
The Mavericks finished third in the Disney Tip-Off Classic with a 2-1 record. UNO recorded a 71-49 win over Augusta State in the opening game before falling to Regis 62-51. The Mavs bounced back in the third-place game with a 75-67 win over Columbus State.
Looking Ahead
The Mavericks will play at Upper Iowa on Nov. 22 before returning home to host the Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 25-26 at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavs will face Iowa Wesleyan and Grand View at 6 each night. UNO will follow that up with another home tournament Dec. 2-3, hosting the DoubleTree Classic. The Mavs will meet Mesa State at 7 p.m. and Adams State at 5 p.m.
