Mavs Sign Underwood, Iowa, Standout

Coach Patty Patton Shearer today announced that Heather Minssen, a first-team all-conference and all-district player from Underwood, Iowa, High School, has signed a national letter of intent. Minssen is the fifth player to sign with the Mavericks during the early-signing period.
Minssen, a 6-1 wing, led the team in scoring and rebounding as a junior last season, averaging 14.8 points and 8 rebounds per game. She also blocked 1.4 shots per game under coach Eric Hjelle. Underwood ended its season at 19-6, advancing to the regional tournament.
The daughter of Rod and Tammy Minssen, Heather has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA and ranks first in her class academically. In addition to being on the honor roll, she is also listed in Who's Who Among American Students.
"Heather is a fantastic athlete who has unlimited potential on the court," Patton Shearer said. "Heather's game is effortless and she will be exciting to coach over her career at UNO. Although Heather is playing on the interior in high school, as she becomes more comfortable, we will be looking to move her to the perimeter to utilize her great versatility."
