Mavs Knock Off Nanooks, 4-2

OMAHA, Neb.--Junior forward Scott Parse tied a career-high for points with two goals and two assists as Nebraska-Omaha defeated No. 14 Alaska Fairbanks 4-2 in front of 5,317 fans at the Qwest Center on Friday night.
UNO erased a 2-0 deficit in the second period with four unanswered goals. Sophomore Mick Lawrence knocked in a rebound just 20 seconds into the second stanza to cut the Nanook lead in half. Parse tied the score at the 7:56 mark after weaving his way through traffic and flipping a wrist shot past UAF's Wylie Rogers to tie the game at 2-2.
Sophomore Bill Thomas gave the Mavericks a 3-2 lead at the 12:11 mark on the power play when he scored on a nifty backhand shot for his fifth goal of the year.
Parse then netted his second goal of the night and fifth of the season when he deflected a Mike Eickman shot from the point at 15:56.
The Mavericks outshot UAF 17-3 in the second period and 25-21 for the contest.
Freshman Jerad Kaufmann gave up two goals in the first six minutes of the game but held UAF in check the remainder of the night and ended with 19 saves.
UNO (5-4-0, 3-4-0 CCHA) will be looking for its first two-game sweep over Alaska Fairbanks since 1999 when they play the Nanooks in the series finale on Saturday night. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
