Mav Rally Falls Short in Loss to Nanooks

OMAHA, Neb.--The Nebraska-Omaha hockey team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 4-3 loss to No. 14 Alaska Fairbanks in front of a season-high 5,975 fans at the Qwest Center on Saturday night.
The Nanooks were outshot 13-3 in the opening period but managed to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room after Kyle Greentree scored on a breakaway with 1:26 remaining until intermission.
UAF extended its lead to 4-0 in the second stanza on goals by Jordan Hendry, Aaron Lee and Kelly Czuy.
UNO's Bill Thomas cut the deficit in half when he scored at 15:21 of the second period and then again at 8:09 of the third period for his sixth and seventh goals of the season to make the score 4-2.
Scott Parse brought UNO within a goal when he recorded the 41st goal of his career on a rebound with 6:54 left to play.
The Mavericks had several chances to tie the score in the closing minutes of regulation but UAF goalie Chad Johnson, who had 31 saves and was the game's first star, stood his ground.
UNO starting goaltender Greg Barrett was pulled in the second period after giving up two goals on four shots. Jared Kaufmann relieved Barrett and finished with seven saves. UNO outshot the Nanooks 34-13 in the contest.
The Mavericks (5-5-0, 3-5-0 CCHA) turn to non-conference action on Tuesday when they host Minnesota State, Mankato at 7:05 p.m. at the Qwest Center.
