Mavs Travel to Upper Iowa Tonight

The Mavericks will begin a three-game week with a non-conference contest tonight at Upper Iowa University, marking the first-ever meeting between the schools and the first of two games this season. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. in Fayette, Iowa.
Coach Patty Patton Shearer's Mavs are 3-2 and will be trying to post back-to-back wins for the first time this season. UNO is coming off a 72-60 win over Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 17.
Upper Iowa, an NCAA II school that next year will join the Northern Sun Conference, is 1-2 this year. UIU will return the visit to Omaha on Jan. 21.
Later this week the Mavs will host the Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO will play Iowa Wesleyan on Friday and Grand View on Saturday. Both games tip-off at 6 p.m.
The Mavs are led in scoring by senior forward JJ Smith, averaging 16.4 points per game. Junior Ashley Freerksen is averaging 11.4 points and junior guard Karen Thies 10.6, as well as leading the team in rebounding at 7.4 per game.
