Mavs Cruise Past Upper Iowa, 85-50

FAYETTE, Iowa -- Junior forward Ashley Freerksen scored 22 points to lead four players in double figures as the Mavericks raced to an 85-50 non-conference win over Upper Iowa Tuesday night.
"I thought we played a great team game," coach Patty Patton Shearer said. "We did a nice job defensively and everyone contributed."
The Mavs won back-to-back for the first time this season in improving to 4-2 before this weekend's Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic at Sapp Fieldhouse when they play Iowa Wesleyan at 6 Friday night.
UNO shot 55.6 percent the first half and took a 43-33 lead at the break, then held Upper Iowa to just 17.9 percent shooting from the field and 17 points the second half. UNO finished shooting 47.1 percent to Upper Iowa's 31.5.
Freerksen also added five rebounds and three steals in just 21 minutes in registering her season-high. Karen Thies added 13 points and five assists, while Ellen Majewski and Lacey Geitzenhauer each scored 11 points. Geitzenhauer, Carlye Jones and JJ Smith all grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
