Mavs Register 4th Straight Win

Karen Thies scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds Saturday night in the Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic as UNO overcame cold second-half shooting to defeat Grand View, 74-56, for its fourth-straight victory.
The Mavericks improved to 6-2 with the win, while the Vikings fell to 2-6. Earlier in the day Northern State defeated Iowa Wesleyan, 82-39.
UNO scored the first 13 points in the game and held Grand View without a field goal for 7:40 in taking a 46-25 lead at halftime while shooting 50 percent from the field.
After the break the Mavs hit just 25 percent and the Vikings, who once trailed by 61-35 midway through the half, sliced the margin to just 14 over an eight-minute span, trailing 68-54 with 1:56 remaining.
JJ Smith and Ellen Majewski connected on three-pointers to end the rally, however. Smith finished with 13 points and six rebounds and Cayla Hargrove and Ashley Freerksen chipped in with 12 points apiece. Carlye Jones, who also had six reboounds and Majewski each scored six.
UNO finished the game with 36.8 percent shooting from the field to 43.5 percent for Grand View.
Ashley Livingston led the Vikings with 13 points and Tanna Slings and Jesi Barrett each scored 12. Jody Iverson led both teams with 11 rebounds.
UNO's next action will come Friday when it hosts Mesa State in the first round of the DoubleTree Classic at 7 p.m.
