Kapels Earns NCC Player of Week Honor

Senior guard Calvin Kapels, who helped lead the Mavericks to three wins last week, was named player of the week in the North Central Conference. Kapels averaged 18.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists and shot 67.8 percent from the field in last week's games.
Kapels, from Columbus, shares the honor with South Dakota's Turner Trofholz, whose hometown in Schuyler.
Kapels scored 13 points and had five assists in a 94-59 win over Missouri Valley College Nov. 22. He then scored 22 points in UNO's 73-47 win over Colorado State-Pueblo, with 12 coming in the final nine minutes to spur a 27-5 run by the Mavs. He capped his week with his first double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go with six assists in a 68-48 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State.
