Mavs Win Big, Advance in Tip-off Classic

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Mavericks kicked off the season with a 71-49 win over Augusta State Friday afternoon in the first round of the Disney Tip-Off Classic. UNO will now play Saturday at 5 p.m. Central time against Regis for a chance to advance to the championship game Sunday.
The Mavs came out strong right from the start taking a 10-2 lead 8 minutes into the first half and ended up leading 37-19 at the half. Junior forward Lacey Geitzenauer led UNO with 14 points. Senior JJ Smith and junior Ashley Freerksen had 13 and junior Karen Thies chipped in with 11. Geitzenauer had a double-double with 13 rebounds and junior Toni Kinsey led UNO with six assists.
The Mavs shot 42 percent from the field and kept the Lady Jaguars to 32 percent shooting. Alena Botovska led ASU with 10 points.
