No. 24 UNO Sweeps SCSU in Home Finale

OMAHA, Neb. -- In the final home appearance of her Maverick career, senior outside hitter Ashley Freeman pounded a match-high 14 kills and hit .462 as the 24th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team swept visiting St. Cloud State, 30-19, 30-16, 30-16, before 714 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse Saturday evening. Freeman also added four blocks and four digs.
With the victory, the Mavericks remained in a first-place tie with fifth-ranked Minnesota Duluth in the NCC standings. Nebraska-Omaha improved to 18-6 overall and 9-1 in the NCC. St. Cloud State fell to 7-21 overall and 1-10 in league play.
Senior Heather Hainline also made the most of her final Sapp Fieldhouse appearance, with nine kills on .643 hitting, while adding four blocks. Senior Briana Ritter added eight kills and a match-high seven blocks as the Mavericks held a 11.5 to 2 advantage in total team blocks.
Sophomore Carlie Christensen hit .800 with eight kills, no errors in 10 attempts, as the Mavericks hit .351 in the match, their second best effort of the season, while holding the Huskies to .020 hitting.
Senior Chelsea Miller led the UNO defensive effort with 11 digs, while senior Christy Johnson directed the Maverick offense with 39 assists, while adding eight digs.
UNO will conclude the 2005 regular season next week when they travel to Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Nov. 11 and Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday, Nov. 12. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
