BOWLING GREEN, Ohio--Bowling Green rallied for two third period goals to defeat Nebraska-Omaha 4-3 and complete a two-game sweep on Saturday night at the BGSU Ice Arena.
The loss extended the Mavericks' losing streak to four games as they remain pointless in the CCHA standings. UNO (2-4-0, 0-4-0 CCHA) travels to East Lansing next weekend to take on Michigan State in a two-game series.
UNO grabbed its first lead in three games just 28 seconds into the contest after Bryan Marshall tipped home a rebound for his second goal of the weekend. Bowling Green later took a 2-1 lead halfway through the period on goals by James Unger and Ben Geelan only to see the Mavericks tie the score with 3:07 remaining in the period on Bill Bagron's first goal of the season.
The Mavericks retook the lead at 3-2, five minutes into the second stanza when Mick Lawrence redirected a shot during a 4-on-3 situation for UNO's first power play goal in 18 tries.
The Falcons evened the score early in the final period when John Mazzei took control of a loose puck in front of the net and flipped it past a sprawled out Jared Kaufmann and struck again four minutes later on Ryan Barnett's game-winner, his first goal of the year, for a 4-3 lead.
UNO had several chances to tie the score when the were awarded a power play with 3:19 remaining in regulation but BGSU goaltender Jimmy Spratt was able to keep the puck out of the net.
Kaufmann made his first career start in goal for UNO and had 31 saves in the losing effort.
UNO was 1-for-6 on the power play and killed off all four Falcon chances. BGSU outshot the Mavs, 35-30.
