Michigan Downs UNO, 7-3

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--No. 7 Michigan scored six unanswered goals enroute to a 7-3 victory over No. 20 Nebraska-Omaha at Yost Ice Arena Saturday night.
UM's Jason Bailey, the game's first star, led the Michigan offense with two goals and an assist while his team improved to 11-5-1 and 7-3-1 in the CCHA. UNO (9-8-0, 5-7-0 CCHA)will part for winter break and return to action on December 29 and 31 to host Alabama-Huntsville and Yale at the Qwest Center.
UNO drew first blood in a wide open first period. Scott Parse got the Mavs on the board just 1:54 into the contest when he took a pass from Brandon Scero from the right point and buried a backhand shot from the crease for his 10th goal of the season. Michigan tied the score at 6:14 of the period on a power play goal by Brandon Kaleniecki. The Mavericks recaptured the lead just 55 seconds later when Bill Thomas scored on another backhand shot off a Wolverine turnover. Michigan knotted the score at 2-2 when Evan Porter popped a wrist shot from the point at the 8:16 mark and then took a 3-2 lead after Jason Bailey scored with 29 seconds left in the period.
Michigan broke the game open in the second period with four goals to go ahead 7-2. Andrew Cogliano scored on a breakaway 1:20 into the second period while the Mavs were on the power play. Cogliano's goal ended the night for UNO starting goaltender Jerad Kaufmann, giving way to backup Greg Barrett. Andrew Ebbett tacked on a goal at 13:40 followed by power play tallies from Jack Johnson and Jason Bailey 34 seconds apart after UNO's Kaleb Betts was given a five minute major for checking from behind and a two minute minor for cross checking after the whistle, putting Michigan on a seven minute power play.
The Mavs' Bill Thomas scored his second goal of the night at 17:25 on the power play for the only goal of the final period.
Michigan finished the night 3-for-6 on the power play and killed off all five of UNO's man advantage opportunites. Nebraska-Omaha outshot the Wolverines 32-29 in the contest.
