Mavs Head to Colorado for 2 Games

The Mavericks will try to match the school's longest winning streak when they play two non-conference games in Colorado this week as a final tune-up before beginning North Central Conference action. UNO will play Johnson & Wales University Thusday at 7 p.m. CST in Denver and then will tip-off at 4 p.m. CST Friday at Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
Radio/TV
The games will not be broadcast because of station commitments, however, all future Maverick games will be on the air.
For the Record
UNO has won nine straight games and is 11-2. The school record for consecutive wins is 10, set in 1980-81. UNO's last loss was a 67-64 setback to Rockhurst on Nov. 15.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is beginning her second season as the head coach at UNO and has a 25-16 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 85-65 She compiled a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College before becoming UNO's head coach in the summer of 2004. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their second seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
The Opponents
Johnson & Wales is 0-15 on the season entering Thursday's contest. Colorado Mines has a 5-4 mark before entertaining Carson Newman on Thursday.
The Series
This is the first meeting ever for UNO and Johnson & Wales. UNO lost its only previous meeting with Colorado Mines, 63-53 in overtime, last season.
Last Week
UNO built a 12-point halftime lead before claiming a 77-68 win at Southwest Minnesota State on Dec. 17. Senior foreward JJ Smith scored 21 points, handed out six assists and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Mavs to their ninth-straight victory. Smith earned Nebraska NCAA Division II player of the week honors for her performance.

The Mavericks will open NCC play with a road swing to Augustana Jan. 5 and to North Dakota on Jan. 7.
