Mavs Host 2 Games This Week

The Mavericks play their final two games of a six-game homestand this week when they host Peru State Tuesday and York on Saturday. Both games tip off at 6 p.m. at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.

The Saturday game vs. York will be broadcast over 1620 AM, KOZN, with David Gustafson calling the action.
For the Record
UNO has won six straight games to move to 8-2 on the season. The win streak is the longest since 1996-97 for the Mavericks and gives the team its best start to a season since 1999-2000.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is beginning her second season as the head coach at UNO and has a 22-16 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 82-65 She compiled a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College before becoming UNO's head coach in the summer of 2004. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their second seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
The Opponents
Peru State is 1-9 entering Tuesday's contest. The Bobcats have lost six straight games since defeating Dana on Nov. 8. York is 6-6, including a forfeit win last Saturday over Barclay College. The Panthers had lost their four previous games, including two to NCC teams South Dakota (71-56) and Augustana (80-61).
Last Week
UNO downed Mesa State, 79-56, and Adams State, 92-47, in the DoubleTree Classic at Sapp Fieldhouse. Ashley Freerksen led the Mavs vs. Mesa STate with 15 points and eight rebounds. The Mavs shot 60 percent from the field the second half to pull away and finished at 56 percent for the game. Cayla Hargrove's 17 points led UNO against Adams State as the Mavs kept the hot hand with 50.7 percent shooting for the game. JJ Smith scored 11 and 16 points, respectively, to move past the 1,000-point mark for her career.
Looking Ahead
UNO will play three road non-conference games in December before opening North Central Conference play Jan. 5 at Augustana. The Mavericks will next play at Southwest Minnesota State on Dec. 17.
