Mavs Top Peru State 84-49

JJ Smith led four Mavericks in double figures as Nebraska-Omaha defeated Peru State 84-49 Tuesday evening at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks held Peru State to just 18 first-half points and then shot 60 percent in the second half as they won their seventh straight game and improved to 9-2 on the year. PSC dropped to 1-10.
Smith scored 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting and Lacey Geitzenauer scored 18 with 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Ashley Freerksen scored 14 and Karen Thies added 12.
UNO jumped out to a 15-5 lead as Smith scored 10 of her points in the first 6:04. The Mavericks led 38-18 at halftime and they built a 44-point lead after going on an 18-0 run starting at 12:30 in the second half.
Freerksen led UNO with seven rebounds and Smith pulled down six. Toni Kinsey and LaCheryl Prince led the Mavs with four assists each. The Mavericks took advantage of 26 Bobcat tournovers while giving the ball up 13 times. UNO ended up shooting 47 percent from the floor for the game and 10 of 14 from the free throw line. Jennifer Epting led Peru State with 18 points.
The Mavericks will go for their eighth straight win when they host York Saturday evening at 6.
